Biography

PERNILLE SEJLUND

PERNILLE SEJLUND is a composer, songwriter and singer who started her musical career in DR's Girls' Choir, where she became acquainted with a wide range of musical genres in choral music, ranging from Renaissance music and modern compositional music to pop and jazz.

At the age of 19, she won first prize in a composition competition, and the same happened a few years later in 2002 in the Danish Amateur Choral Union's choral composition competition. This triggered a dedication to composition, which later led her to take a master's degree in composition from DKDM in 2011.

In 2014, Pernille received the prestigious Léonie Sonning Talent Award and in the same year she was the festival composer of the year at Rudersdal Summer Concerts.

The common thread in Pernille's work is a sense of closeness and intimacy - words, emotions, moods and atmospheres are often the starting point and foundation of her music.

Since 2009, she has been working on what she calls "climate music" in close collaboration with climate expert Jesper Theilgaard. Together they have developed a climate lecture concert where spoken words and music revolve around climate change themes. The music has been performed at Roskilde Festival in 2019.

In recent years, Pernille has also become increasingly interested in writing music for and with children and young people, and plays her own original music at school concerts under the Live Music in School programme with Pernille Sejlund ensemble. She has written commissioned works for a wide range of different types of ensembles - from solo musicians to large orchestras, choirs and vocal groups - such as Michala Petri, Bjarke Mogensen, DR Pigekoret, NOVO Quartet, Athelas Sinfonietta and Copenhagen Phil.

She also composes electronic music, theatre music, film music and dance music.

As a songwriter, she has contributed songs to the Folk High School Songbook, the Church Songbook and the Free School Songbook and regularly gives community singing talks with author Mirian Due, with whom she has developed a close creative collaboration, writing choral works, songs and hymns together.
